What was agreed

Replacement surveillance equipment was supplied. Our position is that the cameras received were not the units originally ordered and that the DVR/NVR equipment provided in a previous transaction was faulty leading to a dispute over return arrangements and payment.

BUYER BEWARE — Essential Security Supplies Limited

Our experience with Essential Security Supplies developed into a dispute concerning replacement CCTV and surveillance equipment.

Our position is that the cameras sent to us were not the units originally ordered and that the DVR/NVR equipment provided was faulty. We made repeated requests by email for the correct return address and return instructions so the equipment could be sent back. We remained willing to return the goods but maintained that we could not properly do so until the appropriate delivery address and instructions were supplied.

Essential Security Supplies subsequently pursued payment for replacement surveillance equipment. The documentation includes an invoice for $1,578.09 covering an 8TB surveillance hard drive, a 16-channel network video recorder and freight. A later invoice sought a further $342.42, described as interest calculated from August 2025 to February 2026.

BUYER BEWARE — Essential Security Supplies Limited

We have serious concerns about dealing with Essential Security Supplies Limited and its director/shareholder, Bruce Warren Young.

Mr Young has been associated with companies that have subsequently gone into liquidation. One recent example is Alliance Wholesale Limited, which is currently in liquidation and, according to information we have reviewed, owes more than $400,000 to Inland Revenue.

We also have serious concerns about representations made regarding imported security equipment and warranty responsibility. In our experience, equipment was parallel imported, and when warranty issues arose, responsibility was attributed to the importing company, which had since gone into liquidation, leaving questions about what practical recourse remained for the purchaser.

In our opinion, consumers should exercise extreme caution, independently verify who is providing the New Zealand warranty and who legally stands behind it, and obtain those assurances in writing before purchasing.

BUYER BEWARE. We would not purchase from this business again.

Attempts to resolve

We made multiple requests for the correct return address and return instructions and remained willing to return the disputed equipment.
